Most Vinted sellers either underprice (to "just get rid of it") or overprice (and wonder why nothing sells). There's a systematic way to price that maximises both sale speed and return — and it works for any item in any category.
The Only Price Reference That Matters: Completed Sales
Never price based on what other sellers are currently listing at. Listed prices are aspirational — they include items that have been sitting for six months with no buyers. The only price that matters is what buyers have actually paid.
On Vinted, the best proxy for completed sales is: search your item, sort by "most relevant," and look for listings with recent positive reviews from buyers. If a jacket matching yours has three buyer reviews from the past month, the price it sold at is your market reference. eBay's sold listings (filter: completed items) is also excellent for brand-name pieces.
The Three-Zone Model
For any item, there are three pricing zones:
- Undercut zone (5–10% below market): Sells within 24–72 hours. Best for items where you need quick capital return, or where condition is slightly below average for the category.
- Market zone (at market price): Sells within 1–2 weeks typically. Good for items in excellent condition where you're not in a rush.
- Premium zone (5–15% above market): Can work when your photos are exceptional, condition is perfect, or you have a specific rare variant. Expect slower sales and more negotiation.
Condition Adjustments
The market price assumes the most common condition for that item. Adjust:
- BNWT / deadstock: +20–30% above good-used price
- Excellent / like new: market rate or +5–10%
- Good with minor wear: market rate to −10%
- Visible flaws but functional: −20 to −35%
The Relist Strategy (Instead of Price Drops)
If an item hasn't sold in 3–4 weeks, the instinct is to drop the price. Often this is wrong — the item may be priced correctly but suffering from low visibility (old listings rank lower in search). Before dropping price, try:
- Delete the listing.
- Retake the photos (try a different angle or lighting setup).
- Rewrite the title with different keyword combinations.
- Relist at the same or even slightly higher price.
New listings get visibility boosts. A relisted item at the same price often sells within days when the original sat for weeks. The photos and title refresh also eliminates the possibility that poor presentation was the issue.
Should You Accept Offers?
Yes, in most cases. Declining all offers means missing buyers who would have paid 90–95% of your asking price — which is still a good outcome. Set a mental floor (the minimum you'll accept) and respond to any offer above it with a counter or an acceptance.
For items where you have strong confidence in the price (rare colourways, very specific searches), hold firmer. For items sitting longer than expected, be more flexible.
Seasonal Pricing
Time your listings to demand cycles:
- Winter jackets: List in September–October when buyers start thinking about warmth. Listing in March means competing against buyers' desire to move on from winter.
- Swimwear, linen: March–May. Summer buyers plan ahead.
- Trainers / sneakers: Year-round demand, but spring (new season styling) sees increased activity.
Holding items from winter to winter when missed the seasonal window isn't always possible for resellers managing cash flow — but where you can wait, matching the listing to seasonal demand improves both price and speed.
The Pricing and Sourcing Connection
Pricing strategy only works if you bought right in the first place. A €60 Stone Island jacket can be priced confidently at €140 because there's margin. A €90 Stone Island jacket needs to sell at €140 too — but now a small negotiation or slow market puts you at break-even. The larger your sourcing margin, the more pricing flexibility you have.
Sourcing at the right price means seeing underpriced listings before other buyers. Vinted Monitor gives you that edge — real-time alerts on new listings matching your criteria, so you never miss a €40 jacket that should be €140. See plans →
