Most Vinted listings are written poorly. Vague titles, missing information, and descriptions that don't answer buyer questions are the primary reason good items sit unsold while identical items at the same price sell immediately. Here's how to write listings that actually perform.
The Title: Your Search Engine Ranking
Vinted's search is keyword-based. If your title doesn't contain the words buyers type into search, your listing won't appear. The title is not a place to be creative — it's a place to include every relevant keyword a buyer might search for.
Title Formula
[Brand] + [Item type] + [Specific model/style] + [Colour] + [Size] + [Condition descriptor if space]
Examples:
- ❌ "Nice green jacket barely worn size L" (vague, no keywords)
- ✅ "Stone Island Ghost Piece Nylon Metal jacket olive green size L"
- ❌ "Nike shoes 42.5"
- ✅ "Nike Air Max 90 infrared white red UK 8.5 EU 42.5 original"
- ❌ "Levi's jeans vintage"
- ✅ "Levi's 501 vintage jeans light wash 32x32 made in USA 90s"
Keywords to Include
- Brand name (including common abbreviations: "SI" for Stone Island)
- Specific model name or collection name
- Colour (both English and, if applicable, the brand's official colour name)
- Size in multiple formats if possible (EU, UK, US, S/M/L)
- "Vintage", "archive", "authentic", "rare", "BNWT" if applicable
The Description: Closing the Sale
The description's job is to answer every question a buyer might have before they ask it. A buyer who gets their questions answered in the listing buys. A buyer who has to ask questions often moves on while waiting for an answer.
Description Checklist
- Exact measurements: Don't just say "size L". Give chest width, length, sleeve length. Modern and vintage sizing varies enormously — buyers buying online need measurements to make confident decisions.
- Condition details: Describe condition precisely. "Very good" is vague. "A few light pulls on the ribbing at the cuffs, otherwise excellent — no marks, stains, or fading" is specific and builds trust.
- Material: State the exact material. "100% wool" tells a buyer what they're getting. "Warm" doesn't.
- Why you're selling: A brief, honest reason (upgrading, wrong size, clearing space) builds trust with buyers who are cautious about buying from strangers online.
- Shipping note: "Will ship same or next day after purchase" reassures buyers about speed.
What NOT to Include
- "Price firm, no offers" — it's fine to decline offers, but saying it in the description is off-putting
- Lengthy disclaimers about "sold as seen" (makes buyers suspicious)
- Repeated emojis or excessive punctuation (makes listings look unprofessional)
Condition Rating: Be Accurate
Selecting the wrong condition label is the single biggest source of negative reviews. If a buyer expects "very good" and receives an item with visible pilling, they'll leave a bad review — which damages all your future sales.
When in doubt, rate one level lower and describe honestly. Buyers trust sellers who acknowledge flaws; they feel deceived by sellers who hide them.
Price
Price based on what similar items have sold for, not just what they're listed for. Check completed sales (items with recent positive reviews from buyers) rather than active listings. Set your price 5–10% below the going rate to move the item faster — the small discount is worth faster capital turnover.
Updating Stale Listings
After 3–4 weeks without a sale, don't just drop the price — relist the item as a new listing (delete and re-post). New listings appear at the top of "newest first" searches and get a visibility boost that a price-adjusted old listing doesn't. The refresh effect is often more powerful than a 10% price reduction.
The Competitive Advantage
Well-written listings don't just sell faster — they attract fewer questions, generate better reviews, and build your seller reputation over time. Combine good listings with a monitoring tool like Vinted Monitor that helps you source underpriced items, and you have both sides of the equation covered: buying right and selling right.
