The North Face occupies an interesting position in the resale market: it's mainstream enough that everyone knows it, but specific pieces — particularly the vintage and limited-edition lines — have dedicated collector followings that push prices well above what casual sellers expect. Knowing the difference between a common jacket and a valuable one is where the profit lives.

The Most Valuable TNF Pieces

1996 Retro Nuptse Jacket

The original Nuptse (puffer with horizontal baffles and distinctive colour-blocking) has become one of the most iconic outerwear silhouettes of the past decade. The "1996 Retro" reissue, first released in 2017, has consistent resale value — particularly in sold-out colourways.

  • Popular colourways (Summit Gold, Recycled TNF Black, blue colour-block): buy €80–120, sell €150–200
  • Limited collaboration colourways: can sell for 3–4× retail for the right pair

Vintage "Red Label" / Mountain Equipment

TNF's original logo (the half-dome) was used on a "Red Label" sub-line of technically superior products in the 1980s–90s. These pieces are collectible among outdoor enthusiasts and streetwear fans alike. A vintage Red Label Gore-Tex shell in good condition can sell for €200–500.

Supreme × The North Face

Supreme's annual TNF collaboration is one of the most consistent resale performers in streetwear. Prices vary dramatically by colourway and year — check StockX for current values before purchasing. The Steep Tech jackets and Nuptse collaborations tend to hold value best.

Denali Fleece Jacket

The classic polar fleece two-panel Denali is a volume play — not high margins, but extremely fast turnover. Bought for €25–45, sold for €55–75. Works well for high-volume resellers because every size in every colourway sells quickly.

Gore-Tex Shells (Vintage)

Pre-2000 TNF Gore-Tex shells — particularly the Mountain Guide jacket and original Steep Tech designs — command premiums from outdoor collectors. The seam-sealed Gore-Tex construction of that era is considered superior to modern equivalents by enthusiasts.

What to Avoid

  • Standard Resolve jacket: The most common TNF piece in existence. Margins are negligible — it sells for what you'd expect, and there's always more available.
  • Fleece gilets / vests: Very slow to move in most sizes. The buyer pool is narrower and prices are compressed.
  • Kids/youth range: Small buyer pool, items sit much longer than adult pieces.

Authentication

  • Half-dome logo: Should be clean and symmetrical. On embroidered pieces, the stitching should be tight and uniform.
  • Gore-Tex labelling: Genuine Gore-Tex pieces have a Gore-Tex label inside. The Gore-Tex brand font is consistent — fakes often render it slightly differently.
  • Zipper quality: Genuine TNF uses YKK zippers on technical pieces. Check the zipper pull for the YKK logo.

Finding Underpriced TNF on Vinted

TNF is well-known enough that many sellers price correctly for common pieces. The opportunity is in pieces sellers don't recognise as valuable: vintage Red Label items listed as "old hiking jacket," or a Nuptse colourway the seller doesn't know is sold-out. Using Vinted Monitor with searches for specific models and vintage terms gets you alerts the moment these listings appear, before buyers who know the value claim them. See plans →
