Most Vinted buyers either never make offers (and overpay) or make lowball offers that get ignored. There's a better approach — one that gets offers accepted without insulting sellers and builds a track record that makes future negotiations easier.

Understanding the Offer System

Vinted's built-in offer feature lets buyers propose a price below the listed amount. Sellers can accept, reject, or counter. The seller has 24 hours to respond before the offer expires. Key things to know:

  • Making an offer doesn't reserve the item — another buyer can purchase it at the listed price while your offer is pending.
  • Sellers see your profile (reviews, listing history) when considering your offer.
  • Repeated low offers from the same profile are visible to sellers — don't shotgun lowballs at everyone.

The Winning Offer Range

Research shows the highest offer acceptance rate falls in the 10–15% below asking price range. This is enough for the buyer to feel they got a deal, not enough to insult the seller. Offers below 75% of asking price are almost always ignored or declined.

Example: a jacket listed at €60. A €54 offer (10% off) has a high chance of acceptance. A €42 offer (30% off) will almost certainly be declined, and the seller may be unwilling to negotiate at all afterward.

When to Make an Offer vs. Buy Immediately

Don't offer on items you're willing to lose. If a listing is underpriced and you know it'll be gone in minutes, buy immediately at the listed price. The offer system creates a 24-hour window during which someone else can buy it outright.

Make offers when: the item has been listed for 2+ weeks (seller may be motivated), the price is slightly above your comfort zone but not significantly, or you're buying multiple items from the same seller (bundle discount).

The Bundle Strategy

Buying multiple items from the same seller creates a natural negotiation opportunity. Sellers prefer bundling because it means one transaction, one parcel, one review — less work. A polite message: "I'm interested in the jacket and the hoodie — would you consider a bundle price?" is highly effective.

Bundle offers of 10–15% off the combined listed price on two items are accepted frequently. The seller saves on packing time and effort, the buyer gets a discount — both win.

Message Before Offering (For High-Value Items)

For items over €80, a brief message before making an offer significantly improves success rate:

"Hi — lovely jacket. Is there any flexibility on the price? I'm ready to buy today."

This accomplishes three things: it shows genuine interest (not a lowball bot), it signals you'll move fast (desirable to sellers), and it often gets you a counter-offer without you having to commit to a specific number first.

Timing Your Offer

Sellers are most motivated to accept offers when:

  • The item has been listed for 3+ weeks with no sale
  • It's end-of-season (a winter jacket in March, swimwear in September)
  • The seller has just listed many items (suggests they're actively clearing out and motivated)
  • They haven't had recent sales (zero recent reviews from buyers = may be hungry for a sale)

Don't Chase Sold Items

One of the most common buyer frustrations: finding the perfect item only to see it sold. The buyers who consistently find what they want are the ones who see listings immediately after posting — when the seller hasn't yet had 30 people express interest and has no reason to negotiate.

Monitoring tools like Vinted Monitor alert you within seconds of a matching listing appearing. Being first means you can buy at listed price (before others bid up interest) or make a swift offer with genuine leverage — the seller knows you're interested and ready to pay immediately.
